Back to the forge!

We started blacksmithing again last month! Finally the weather got warm enough that we could stand around outside around a hot forge - sounds a little odd, that warm weather would be necessary to stand around a glowing forge & work with red-hot metal . . . Although your arms stay quite warm, your feet do not necessarily! Plus if it's very cold the forge doesn't work so well: we use propane, so the colder it gets the less effective that is.

But the warm weather is back, so we've been out fooling around with metal. Hugh has made a very nice candle-holder and is working on version 2.0. Christopher is making a mailbox-train (Christopher likes trains...) and Mr. Dave, well... Mr. Dave decided to make a hydrogen torch! I'm a little unclear on exactly how it works, but it works! Something about the pressure of water & using electricity to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen. Very cool...
